Special Issue on the Emerging Mobile Robotics

Osman Tokhi holds the position of Professor of Robotics and Head of Cognitive Systems Research Centre in the School of Engineering at London South Bank University. He received his BSc degree in Electrical Engineering from Kabul University, Afghanistan in 1979 and the PhD degree in Control Engineering from Heriot-Watt University, the UK in 1988. He is a Chartered Engineer, Fellow of IET (Institution of Engineering and Technology), Senior Member of IEEE (Institute of Electronic and Electrical Engineering), Member of IIAV (International Institute of Acoustics and Vibration) and Member of CLAWAR (Climbing and Walking Robots) Association.

He has worked for industry and at various higher education establishments, including the University of Sheffield (UK), Glasgow College of Technology (UK) and Kabul University (Afghanistan). He has held visiting professor positions at Nanyang Technological University (Singapore), University Technology Malaysia (Malaysia), University of Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) and Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena (Spain).

He is currently Chair and Trustee of CLAWAR Association (https://clawar.org), Chair of BSI (British Standards Institute) AMT/010-1 sub-committee on Ethics of Robots and Autonomous Systems, Convenor of ISO (International Standardisation Organisation) Technical Committee TC299 (Robotics) Working Group 02 on Service Robot Safety standardisation, and acts as member of several robot standardisation working groups of ISO and IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission), and the BSI (British Standards Institute) AMT/010 (Robotics) committee.
